Most projectors have either indicator light or a message that will indicate a diminishing life of the lamp. This is not sure that you need a new lamp but it would be a good idea to purchase a backup lamp for that you can choose Sony projector lamps.

Using the lower brightness settings on the projector can help extend projector lamp life. To check you can dim the light, having a nice projector screen will diminish or ambient light now slowly turns up the brightness and then also if the projector is set to highest brightness but the image quality is still dim then the lamp is on its way out.

Color shifting

New projector lamps display clear, crisp colors and if you turn on your projector and color looks like mud then the bulb is no longer strong enough to display accurate colors.
