How to recognize the need to replace the projector lamp

Projectors have become an integral part of office presentations, organizing seminars, taking interactive classes, and so on. It helps in displaying texts, images, and videos on a larger screen. While with due care and maintenance a projector can be used for years, the projector lamp has a limited life that may vary between 2000 to 5000 years of use. Generally, a projector lamp shows some signals before ceasing to work completely. You should recognize these signals and change your projector lamp on time.

1) Popping sound
After turning on the projector, if you hear a popping sound and the screen becomes completely dark, then it signifies it’s time to change the projector bulb. The projector lamps use high-pressure discharge technology which makes a chirping or popping sound on failing.

2) Indicator light
Most projectors comprise an indicator light that indicates the appropriate time to change the projector lamp. If the indicator comes down, it suggests that you should purchase a backup. After changing the projector lamp, you should reset the lamp timer.

3) Dim light
If the projected image looks too dull despite setting the brightness and colour to the normal level, then it indicates that you should change the projector lamp soon.

4) Color shifting
Clear, crisp colour on the projector screen indicates that the projector lamp is in good condition. However, if the colour on the screen looks faded and dull, despite keeping the colour setting to the normal mode, the bulb will likely expire sooner.

5) Image flicker
If the image on the projector screen flickers every now and then, it indicates that the projector lamp may fail shortly.

Well, the above-mentioned indicators are more pertinent when the projector is operated in a clean environment and allowed proper ventilation. But due to excessive heat, voltage fluctuations, and a consistent working schedule, the projector lamp may fail suddenly.
